Karasev is an easy and spicy south Indian tea time snack that is prepared using besan/gram flour. Karasev has many varieties like pepper Karasev/ milagu Karasev, garlic Karasev. Today I prepared and shared the pepper Karasev’s recipe. The important thing in this recipe is crushed black pepper. When we eat small pepper pieces gives a nice spicy taste to this recipe. In the rainy season, a cup of tea with some Karasev is awesome. It is one of the bakeryΒ snacks recipesΒ which is famous in Tamilnadu. You can also check other snack recipes like
I prepared Karasev in two methods. In method 1, a normal sev mould is used to make Karasev. In method 2, Skimmer / holed spoon is used to make it. This is the original traditional method. Karasev is prepared using besan flour. Besan is prepared from chana dhal and so itβsΒ healthy. There are many besan recipes like

Cookery ParkIngredients
- 1 cup Gram flour
- ΒΌ cup Rice flour
- Β½ tsp Jeera
- 1 tbsp Pepper (crushed)
- Β½ tsp Hing
- 1 tsp Chilly powder
- ΒΌ tsp Turmeric powder
- ΒΎ tsp Salt (or as needed)
- 1 tbsp Hot oil / Butter / Ghee
- Oil (for frying)
- Water (as needed)
Instructions
- Crush pepper into small pieces. Donβt powder it.
- In a mixing bowl, add 1 cup of gram flour, ΒΌ cup of rice flour, Β½ tsp jeera, crushed pepper, Asafoetida, chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt, hot oil/ butter and mix well.
- Add water little by little and make a smooth dough.
Method 1
- Fill the dough in a sev mould.
- Heat oil in a pan and press the dough in the hot oil.
- Fry Karasev in medium flame until it turns crispy.
- Once it cools down, break it into pieces and store it in an airtight container.
Method 2
- Take the dough and press it in hot oil using a skimmer/ holed spoon. This is the original method of making Karasev.
- Fry Karasev in medium flame until it turns crispy.
- Once it cools down, store it in an airtight container.

Note
1. Fry Karasev in a medium flame, otherwise it will turn brown soon.
2. It can be stored in an air-tight container and kept for few months.
3. I added two methods. You can do what is comfortable for you.
4. Don’t powder the black pepper, only crushed it. The small pieces in it give good taste while chewing.
