Murungakkai Kootu / Drumstick Kootu recipe is a tasty South Indian recipe that can be prepared using drumstick/murungakkai. Murungakkai kootu is one of my favorite kootu. It is one of the best vegetable curry recipes. Drumstick tree is also called moringa. Drumstick is very healthy. It is popular in south India. It is high in vitamin C. Drumstick curry can be prepared in many ways. This variety is very easy to prepare and also tasty. Murungakkai curry is a side dish for rice. It is the best combination with fish curry. Peel off the skin and cut drumstick into lengthwise or as you like. Depending upon the size the cooking time will change. Adding coarsely grinded coconut paste with coconut, garlic, tamarind, chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and jeera powder gives a nice taste and flavour for this curry. Cookery ParkIngredients
- 5 Drumstick
- 15 Small onion
- 2 Tomato
- 3 Green chilly
- Salt (As needed)
- 1 tsp Oil
- ΒΌ tsp Mustard seeds
- Curry leaves (few)
To grind
- 1 cup Coconut
- 5 pods Garlic
- Tamarind (Gooseberry size)
- 2 tsp Chilly powder
- Β½ tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Jeera powder
Instructions
- Peel off the skin and cut drumstick into lengthwise pieces.
- In a blender, add coconut, garlic, tamarind, chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, jeera powder and water grind it coarsely.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and curry leaves.
- Add chopped small onion, green chilly, tomato and drumstick mix well.
- Add grinded coconut, salt and enough water into it.
- Cover and cook until drumstick cooks well.
- Drumstick curry is ready to serve with rice.
